Sandra Bruce was born in 1955 in Richmond, Virginia. She began drawing at an early age.

Sandra moved to the California Bay Area in 1978 to attend college. Through a weird series of serendipitous events she quit college and in 1982 joined the ranks of the self-employed doing calligraphy and lettering. In 1984 she added illustration to her services.

Gary Pierazzi, also an illustrator, became a part of Sandra’s life when they met in 1983. In 1990 they moved to Grass Valley, located in California’s Sierra foothills, to live and work among the pines and madrones. Their son Matteo Bruce Pierazzi was born in 1998.

Although Sandra finally joined the computer age recently with the acquisition of a Macintosh computer, she still does her linework conventionally with brush and ink. This artwork is scanned for manipulation and the addition of color treatments. The resulting digital files allow Sandra to transmit her work electronically to clients worldwide.
