MATERIAL MATRIX WORKSHOP

My technique, "Material Matrix", is inspired by the painter, Chuck Close. It involves using a gridded photograph and interpreting each 2-inch square into fabric, using piecing to achieve the effect.

My lecture, "Material Matrix and the Paths Taken", is an overview of the evolution of Material Matrix and how it works, along with my colorful visual journey that brought me to this technique.

My Matrix workshop can be taught in a variety of time frames, from 2-5 days. In the workshop, in addition to the technique, I teach: what makes a good photo to use, color and value, curved-piecing, and how to grid your own photo. Everyone in the class works on the same project, picking from "Sew Ready", "Wake Up Cup" or "Junior Cardinal". See below for photos. For a smalI fee I provide a template and handouts so the pieces can be finished at home with confidence.
